How Yoni Steaming Positively Affected my Moon Cycle

I first started yoni steaming in 2018 and have had a consistent steaming practice since. These days my personal steaming practice looks more like once a week and a few days in a row after my period ends. I steam up to 30 minutes at a time and usually don’t use a cloak.

Steaming has definitely changed my period. Prior to finding and learning more about yoni steaming and diving into the practice as a whole, I suffered from severe menstrual cramps, clots, and pain around my menstrual cycle. The cramps weren’t debilitating but severe enough to warrant the use of over the counter NSAIDs to help ease the pain and provide me comfort so I could work.

I have 5 years of experience steaming myself and 4 years of experience steaming others. Trust me! I know what steaming regularly can do to a menstrual cycle. These days when I am on my period there are very minimal PMS symptoms that are physical (more mental/emotional). I have no cramps, no back ache, and haven’t had to take any OTC for pain. My menses blood is bright fresh red. I used to have some hesitant start to my period, where it would be really slow to start its flow. Now, I am often surprised at how easeful my cycle is. I can’t help but think all bleeding bodies deserve this ease when on their flow.

The only time I actually notice cramps is when I miss a steam session or two! I am a busy working mom and sometimes life gets in the way. It’s when I’m really off my steaming practice that is when my period symptoms increase. Once I get back on that regular self-care yoni steam, my symptoms go away again and bleeding time is easy once again.

I always tell my new clients that first and foremost, yoni steaming is a self-care practice with cumulative benefits. Many new clients often expect a quick result with steaming and in some instances, that can and does happen. However, for the majority of bleeding women, the most significant changes happen when you are the most consistent with a steaming practice.

I am one of the only Peristeam facilitators offering in person steams in Portland, Oregon. I also do virtual consultations and create custom steam plans tailored to your menstrual cycle and symptoms. I’d love to work with you!
